Art Hop Volunteer Opportunities

As an exhibit welcome volunteer, you will be participating in one of the most critical roles in Art Hop: providing a warm and helpful reception for artists who will be delivering their art for showing in the exhibit. For many of the artists, this will be their first face-to-face interaction with HCAF, the group that is honoring them with a month-long showing of their work.
Volunteer Duties
As an Exhibit Welcome volunteer, you will:
Greet artists as they arrive to deliver their artwork for showing in the the exhibit
Direct the artists to the check-in their artwork and verify the information for their work.
Provide general information and answer questions the artists may have.
What We’re Looking For
Friendly and dependable individuals
Ability to stand and walk for an extended period.
Comfortable interacting artists and the public.
No previous art experience is necessary.
Time Commitment
Shift Length: 2 – 4 ½ hours
A number of shifts are available on the afternoon of Sunday, Sep. 29.

As an Art Hop Art Intake volunteer, you will help perform a vital quality control and logistics function for the exhibit.
Your work will help reduce the chances for mix-ups, damage, or loss while the artists’ works are in our custody. Without this formal check-in process, problems discovered later will become much harder to solve.
As an Exhibit Art Intake volunteer, you will assist in:
Confirming that the correct artwork arrives.
Documenting the artwork’s condition by quick visual inspection.
Making sure that the artwork is ready to hang.
Confirming with the artist and the Exhibit Art Hanging volunteer where the work will be placed.
What We’re Looking For
Friendly and dependable individuals
An ability to communicate clearly and respectfully
Ability to stand and move easily in different postures
Attention to detail and documentation
Comfortable interacting with artists and the public
No previous art experience is necessary.
Time Commitment
Shift Length: 2 – 4 ½ hours
Two shifts are available on the afternoon of Sunday, Sep. 29.

As an Exhibit Staging Volunteer, you will work with the curators and the artists to move the artwork from the intake stations to the gallery locations where they will be hung. For some works that will not or cannot be hung immediately, you will help place the pieces for overnight storage.
As with others who handle the artworks directly, you must approach your responsibilities with a strong sense of personal responsibility and care.
Volunteer Duties
Use the pre-planned wall layout map to determine the hanging location of artworks.
Move artwork from the intake stations to their hanging locations, some times in a moving team for awkward pieces
For works that will not be hung immediately, help set them up for overnight storage in the library.
If you have appropriate transportation, you may be asked to help support works to our second venue where they will be hung there
What We Are Looking For
Cheerful, dependable individuals who enjoy working with others in a team
A strong sense of personal commitment and the and duty of care
Ability to stand and walk for an extended period.
Capacity to occasionally lift and carry artworks up to 25 pounds.
No previous art experience is necessary.
Time Commitment
Shift Length: 2 – 4 ½ hours
Two shifts are available on the afternoon of Sunday, Sep. 29.
There should be at least 2 staging volunteers on duty during all shifts.

Your efforts will be at the heart of the exhibit development process for Art Hop 2026. Building on the work of the Exhibit Intake and Staging Volunteers, you will assist our curators in the actual hanging of the accepted artwork based on a pre-developed wall layout plan and the labeling of the work for review by our in-person panel of awards judges.
Volunteer Duties
Work with the curator to hang the artworks in the appropriate location in the exhibition.
Help document this step in the installation process, to ensure that works are mounted in accord with the artwork layout plan.
·Assist the curators with help in retrieving works still in staging and in ensuring that all the necessary hanging hardware is on hand.
What We’re Looking For
Friendly and dependable individuals
Ability to stand and walk for an extended period.
Ability to manipulate small tools such as pliers
Can occasionally assist with artwork weighing up to 25 pounds
No previous art experience is necessary.
Time Commitment
· Shift Length: 2 – 4 ½ hours
· Two-hour shifts will be available on the afternoon of Sunday, Sep. 29, and during business hours of Monday, Sep. 30.

Operations Support Volunteers help ensure that Exhibit Delivery Day runs smoothly by providing assistance wherever it is most needed. These volunteers work closely with the Exhibit Lead and may assist with artist check-in, wayfinding, artwork staging, installation support, supply distribution, and problem-solving throughout the day.
Volunteer Duties
Over the course of the artwork delivery day, exhibit operations volunteers will be called upon to do any – and perhaps all – of the following activities.
Welcoming arriving artists
Directing artists and artwork to the correct locations
Delivering supplies and materials to installation areas
Assisting volunteers in other roles during peak periods
Helping resolve logistical issues as they arise
Supporting the Exhibit Lead with special projects and urgent needs
What We Are Looking For
A flexible and positive attitude
